Clothes Dryer Vent Cleaning Process to Reduce Fire Risk
Dryer Vent cleaning is highly important since according to a study, around 3,000 fires happen in the United States due to uncleaned clothes dryer vents. Most owners do not give heed to the regular maintenance of the dryer vent, which leads to the malfunctioning of the machine and other damages. Mostly, the problems are caused by the clogging of lint materials in the lint trap filters or lint trap housings. Therefore, a comprehensive cleaning of the dryer vent is required in order to keep the machine performing at 100% as well as avoiding damage.
Supplies Required to Perform Dryer Vent Cleaning Process
In order to properly perform the dryer vent cleaning process, some supplies may be required. Some of the commonly used supplies are as follows:
- Vacuum Pump with a long hose: This will be used to suck the lint residue clogged on the lint filter or in the lint trap housing. A long hose will be able to reach inside the dryer and properly clean it.
- Dryer Vent Brush Kit: This will be useful when the lint filter or duct is taken out of the dryer to be cleaned. The brush kit will be able to properly clean the filter.
- Screwdrivers: A screwdriver kit will be required in order to detach the lint filter or duct from the dryer.
Procedure to Clean the Dryer Vent
The main objective of cleaning the dryer vent is to remove the clothes residue from it. However, different techniques can be used in order to achieve this objective just like in carpet cleaning. Two commonly used techniques involve the use of Vacuum Cleaner and Brush Kits.
Vacuum Cleaner Dryer Vent Cleaning: In order to clean the dryer vent using the vacuum cleaner, take the machine in the open and open the side from where it is easier to reach the filter and other parts of the vent. With the help of long hose vacuum cleaner, start removing the residue particles from different portions of the vent. Perform this process until the vent is thoroughly cleaned.
Dryer Vent Cleaning using Brush: In order to clean the dryer vent using a brush kit, you will need to detach the lint filter trap, lint trap housing and dryer duct with the help of screwdriver set. Now start removing the lint, residue and dirt particles from these parts with the help of brush until they are completely clean and free from any stains that might be in there too.
